When asked to identify personal expenses it had put gay personnel at risk for blackmail or manipulation and had an adverse effect on their personal and unit relationships that they attributed to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, the vast majority of the 208 respondents said. Up To a much smaller degree, they reported being mocked or teased. a big small fraction 35 per cent of participants attributed mental health conditions towards the policy. Seven % reported having been threatened or hurt by other people in the armed forces due to their intimate orientation.
